Graduate School of Agriculture Master's Course


This course provides the specialized education programs concerning plant and animal productions in agriculture focusing on one of fundamental subjects “how to secure agricultural production”. The coming agricultural production system is socially demanded for not only high-yield production but efficient and environment-conservative systems and managements, and safety, high-quality and stable supplies. From these viewpoints, this course provides specialized education aiming to investigate new agricultural production systems by deepening the educations and researches of plant and animal production divisions in cooperation with each other.

Division of Plant Production Science

This division focuses on the researches to develop new technology that stably produces   high-quality crops and is harmonious with the global environment, and includes the research  areas: the production of field crops, fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants, on the bases of researches on morphology, physiology, ecology,breeding, biochemistry, disease and pest control, preservation and utilization.

Division of Animal Production Science

The major research impeteus of this division is to focus on efforts that explain valuable intrinsic functions and the control mechanisms in animals, and develop basic and high technologies in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of animals as well as sustaining an environment favorable to our ecosystem in the genetic improvement of meat production performance; the development of techniques for improving reproductive efficiency; the nutritional biochemistry of animals; the physiology of meat production; the animal behavior and well-being; production techniques for high quality meat.


This course provides education and research aimed at teaching the knowledge and technology required for comprehensive management, application and evaluation of water and soil resources as the productive base on agriculture and forestry, technical resources concerned with machinery, facility and structure, and human and information resources such as people and organization conducting food production and its circulation.

Division of Planning on Agricultural and Forest Resources

In this division, students will learn high special knowledge and ability of evaluating and analyzing quantitatively the situation of resource and environment in agriculture and forestry. As M.S.(Agr.) model, students will pursue subject related to management and continuous use of agricultural and forest resources, the subject related to analysis and planning of regional society. Then we wish to develop talented persons who can suggest environment policy on agriculture and forestry to the industry in the area.

Division of Agricultural Environmental Engineering

In this division, students will obtain special knowledge about advanced technology for practicing infrastructure improvement in agriculture and rural community on the basis of regional planning, environmental development, conservation and mechanization. As M.S.(Agr.) model, students will pursue subjects on high and more practical lectures and special research for agricultural environmental engineering such as the subjects related to environmental development, conservation and mechanization in agriculture.


This course covers environmental sciences in forests, grasslands and arid regions, which occupy 60 % of terrestrial parts of the world, focusing on harmony between environmental conservation and resource utilization by two study approaches, field sciences and biological resource sciences. The former aims at ecosystem management including conservation and improvement of environments as well as sustainable production of biological resources, while the latter develops utilization of the biological resources produced in the ecosystems.

Division of Forest Science

Division of Forest Science has six research areas; forest ecology and environments, forest resource and environment planning, forest environment engineering, wood science, forest chemistry, and field science of forest. Current research topics in this division are as follows; structure and function of forest ecosystem, conservation and rehabilitation of forest ecosystem, management of watershed environments, management and planning of forest resources, tree growth and wood properties, and biochemical study of fungi.

Division of Grassland Science

Division of Grassland Science deals with five research areas: grassland ecology and systems, grass breeding, forage crop science, utilization of grassland resources, and tropical grassland farming.Diverse programs in these areas are offered to students who intend to understand the framework and landscape in the multiple grassland ecology. Through these programs, students can get the systematic insight, necessary skills and knowledge of multiple functions of grassland management, grass and plant genetic resource development, production, evaluation and resource utilization of grass, forages and lawn grass.


This program provides for the education and research to graduates for produce aquatic animals in the ocean, rivers and lakes based on a broad range of basic knowledge and harmony with the natural ecosystem. The objectives of the program is to ethically implement advanced expertise to conserve natural habitat, manage the resource, provide for aquaculture using countermeasures against diseases, and the development and utilization of aquatic organisms. This program fulfills a major role in Miyazaki to implement applied research for industrial development and succession planning as an exclusive think-tank for the Miyazaki area. The course provides education in the applied practical field sciences at Nobeoka Marine Science Station.

Division of Fisheries Sciences

The Division of Fisheries Sciences has three research and education areas: Fish Nutrition and Biochemistry, Biology and Ecology of Aquatic Organisms, and Fish Biology and Aquaculture. These areas offer course lectures and research programs beginning with basic knowledge and proceeding to the current field applications using advanced technologies to produce aquatic organisms in the hydrosphere. We aim to systematically train people who are richin creativity and have a dynamic originality to be experts and researchers in fisheries science.


Graduate Course of Department of Biochemistry and Applied Biosciences offers education and research in two Divisions: Division of Biotechnology and Biochemistry and Division of Food Science and Nutrition. This course is conducting a variety of extensive studies in the fields of biotechnology, chemical biology, biochemistry, food science and nutrition.

Division of Biotechnology and Biochemistry

Education and research conducted in activities of biochemistry, microbiology, plant genetics and breeding, and plant nutrition/soil science fields are elucidating the biological functions of life. We are encountering many serious problems in relation to life science and environmental science. With the aim of solving these problems, our division is conducting a variety of extensive fields of biotechnology, chemical biology and biochemistry.

Division of Food Science and Nutrition

At this division the education is within the areas of food chemistry, food processing, food hygiene and nutrition chemistry. The research activities of this division lie in the field of nutrition or are related to functional properties of food. The aim is to identify the biochemical mechanisms connected to health promoting effects of food with a view of optimum utilization of food materials and development of functional foods.
